Elementary Description

Our elementary course is for those who have some basic knowledge and want to learn more. The focus is more on speaking and listening, with some reading and writing. New vocabulary and grammar are steadily introduced and you will learn simple conversation.

– Please note: Introduction is for complete beginners and Elementary is a continuation of the beginners level.There are 5 levels in Elementary and it takes 8 weeks to complete each level. If you are not sure of your level, take a quick level check or get in touch.

What you will learn

Elementary 1
  • Katakana reading 
  • Saying where you are going (わたしは えきへ いきます)
  • Express like and dislike (わたしは すしが すきです)
  • Talking about daily activity  (わたしは すしを たべます)
  • Suggest something and responding (えいがを みませんか/みましょう)
  • Say what you give/ receive (わたしは ははに はなを あげました)
  • Describe objects and people (にほんごは おもしろいです)
  • Expressing what someone is good at (ははは りょうりが じょうずです)
Elementary 2
  • Giving a reason for an action (〜から) (たかいですから、かいません)
  • Saying locations (つくえの うえに ほんが あります) 
  • Counters (Objects/people)(ラーメンを ひとつ ください)
  • Say how long it takes(かいしゃまで 30ぷん かかります)
  • Adjective past (きのうは あつかったです)
  • Compare two things(いぬとねことどちらがすきですか)
  • Saying what you want to do (にほんへ いきたいです)
  • Saying a purpose of going to the place.(うみへ およぎにいきます)
Elementary 3
  • Asking someone to do something (まどを あけてください)
  • Talking about what someone is doing now.(くみさんは ほんを よんでいます)
  • Asking permission to do something(しゃしんを とっても いいですか)
  • Prohibiting someone from doing something (たばこを すっては いけません)
  • Talking about your current situation(わたしは メルボルンに すんでいます)
  • Joining two or more sets of actions (ともだちに あって、コーヒーをのみました)
  • Showing the order of actions(ボタンをおしてから、カードを いれます)
  • Describe someone’s physical appearance. (あには せが たかいです)
  • Joining adjectives in extended description (あには せが たかくて、あしが ながいです)
  • Saying that you have done something before (なっとうを たべたことが あります)
  • Listing some of the activities that you do(さんぽしたり、かいものしたりします)
Elementary 4
  • Talking about what you can do. (わたしは およぐことが できます)
  • Talking about your hobbies. (わたしの しゅみは ほんを よむことです)
  • Saying what you do before the action. (ねるまえに、くすりを のみます)
  • Asking someone not to do something. (たばこを すわないでください)
  • Talking about obligations (6じに おきなければなりません)
  • Informal speech/casual conversation (アイスクリーム、たべる?)
  • Expressing what you think (あの えいがは おもしろいと おもいます)
  • Seeking agreement (きょうは さむいでしょう?)
Elementary 5
  • Noun modification (ははが つくった カレーを たべます)
  • Saying when you do the action (かいしゃへ いくとき、おんがくを ききます)
  • Give an instruction using conditional sentences. (ボタンを おすと、みずがでます)
  • Saying what someone gave you. (ともだちが はなを くれました)
